18 Indians kidnapped in Nigeria by pirates

In a shocking incident near Nigeria, a group of eighteen Indians on board a Hong Kong-flagged vessel (VLCC, NAVE CONSTELLATION’) were abducted by pirates near the Nigerian coast on Dec 3. The global agency is currently tracking maritime developments in the region.

Soon after the news of kidnapping, the Indian mission in Nigeria has approached the African nation’s authorities for help in order to find out the details and most importantly, rescue the abducted Indians.

The website of ARX Maritime (which tracks movements of ships) said that pirates hijacked the ship on Tuesday and a total of 19 people on board the vessel were kidnapped. Only one among them is a non-Indian, a native of Turkey. The incident took place 70 miles off Bonny town.

”Our mission in Nigeria has taken up the matter related to the kidnapping of the Indian crew members of the ship MT Nave Constellation off Bonny, Nigeria with Nigerian Government and the security agencies,” the sources said.
