Is It Justifiable To Threaten Filmmakers Without Watching The Film?

During his campaigning for Dubbaka elections, BJP’s Chief of Telangana Bandi Sanjay got carried away and made some violent comments targeting one of India’s top directors, SS Rajamouli. Sanjay threatened Rajamouli with physical attacks if the scenes involving NTR as Komaram Bheem in a Muslim attire wasn’t removed immediately.

In the recently released teaser of ‘RRR’, NTR who plays the role of Komaram Bheem was seen wearing a skull cap and applying surma. This did not go down well with the saffron army and Telangana BJP’s captain indicated at burning film reels and destroying theatres if those said objectionable scenes weren’t chopped off.

His out of line comments did not go down well with fans of Rajamouli and NTR. Even the film industry people have condemned Bandi Sanjay’s rash language and violent tone. Many people are opining that Sanjay needs to talk to Rajamouli personally first instead of making threats in the public just to draw cheers in public meetings. Rajamouli and his film’s team have been silent regarding this issue and are focused on completing ‘RRR’.

A lot of people are questioning how could anyone ask the filmmakers to chop off the scenes without watching the scene and looking into its context. Expressing their concerns to the filmmaker is justifiable but these threats shouldn’t be encouraged as per some experts. Are these threats really necessary? Shouldn’t the director be approached first before coming in front of the media? These are the questions that people need to think about beforehand.
