Koganti Sambasiva Rao, an Indian Railway Traffic Service officer, was arrested two days ago in the scandal related to the Andhra Pradesh State FiberNet Limited (APSFL), which allegedly took place during Chandrababu Naidu’s regime. The petition that Rao filed in the HC, seeking bail and dismissal of the case registered by the CID on him, came to a hearing on Monday.
Rao was arrested by CID officials on Sunday, for allegedly binding the first phase tenders for APSFL to Terra Software Pvt Ltd during the last government’s tenure. An FIR has been registered against 19 people by the CID, who have been accused of being involved in a scandal in the AP fibre grid project, worth nearly Rs. 2,000 Crores. The CID had repeatedly questioned Vemuri Hari Prasad and Sambasiva Rao in connection with the case last week.
After hearing the arguments of Supreme Court advocate Adinarayana Rao, who argued on behalf of Sambasiva Rao, who said that the petitioner would lose his job if not given bail within 48 hours, the HC granted Rao conditional bail. It is now being said that the CID might move a division bench of the high court challenging the granting of bail to Sambasiva Rao, as he might influence the witnesses and tamper with the evidence.
