A man with intellectual honesty – Manohar Parrikar

It is a sad day today as we lost one of the most clever and loyal politicians of India, Manohar Parrikar. He died today after battling with pancreatic cancer for more than a year.

He wanted to serve Goa till his last breath and he indeed worked till today morning. He served as Goa’s Chief Minister for four times. Renowned politicians like Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, KCR, Kumaraswamy, Rahul Gandhi, and Ram Nath Kovind expressed their condolences on social media.

Here are a few things we need to know about Manohar:

1. He first joined RSS as pracharak and even since the beginning of his career, he was eminently known for his clean image in politics.

2. He was an IIT graduate in metallurgical engineering and the first IIT alumnus to enter the state legislature.

3. He was one of the first members among the BJP party in Goa, with just four members in the assembly.

4. He is known for extreme simplicity and often travels on his scooter. His lifestyle has been inspired by many.

5. He is one of the successful and hardworking Chief ministers and the fact that he worked for 16-18 hours a day is one of his exceptional traits.

6. In a wide spectrum of politicians, Manohar is the most down-to-earth leader ever. He is known for speaking his mind at any given moment.

7. He has a trademark attire of wearing a half-sleeved shirt and leather chappals. Also, he has faced criticism and been mocked for wearing simple footwear while inspecting the guard of honour back in 2015.

The country has lost a man with magnetic leadership qualities today. His honesty, competence and integrity are unparalleled and May his soul rest his peace.
