Yesterday, an Indian businessman, Anil Ambani, was able to forestall a possible jail term with the help of his brother Mukesh Ambani. The reliance communications have cleared dues of Swedish Service Provider in the last moment when Anil received the whopping amount from his brother Mukesh and his wife Nita. He thanked them later for showing the timely support and bailing him out.
Anil Ambani had to pay nearly Rs.500 crore along with interest to Ericsson. Yesterday was the last day allocated by the Supreme Court and if Anil failed to pay the debt, he would have been served with a three-month jail term along with two other Reliance employees. After clearing debts, Reliance had to end the Rs.17000 crores deal of selling telecom assets transfer agreement to Mukesh Reliance’s Jio as they failed to receive approval from the government.
Anil issued a midnight statement, “My sincere and heartfelt thanks to my elder brother, Mukesh, and Nita, for standing by me during these trying times, and demonstrating the importance of staying true to our strong family values by extending this timely support”.
Earlier, in the past, when Dhirubhai Ambani died, the two brothers had to split their business into two after an ugly brawl. Anil has settled with telecom and power and Mukesh with oil and petrochemical business. But now, Anil said that he is grateful for his brother Mukesh’s kind gesture and helping him by forgetting the past.
