AP Visit: Will Rahul stoke Special Status sentiment?

The state unit of the Congress party has huge hopes on the party’s National President Rahul Gandhi who will be visiting the state on February 22nd. The party which couldn’t even make a deposit in Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation, is looking for revival. It is expected that Rahul Gandhi will stoke the Special Status sentiment once again during this visit.

As part of their Bharosa Yatra, Congress hopes to rejuvenate its cadre in the state and rake up ‘Andhra sentiment’ to criticise Narendra Modi’s government for not fulfilling assurances made in the AP Reorganisation Act as well as granting Special Status to Andhra Pradesh.

In a surprise move, Rahul Gandhi also made a visit to AP Bhavan as part of “Apni Baat Rahul Ke Sath” programme where he interacted with entrepreneurs in the VIP canteen of the AP Bhavan. The meeting lasted for about 40 minutes which also included discussions on his AP upcoming visit.

The state Congress unit, meanwhile, is trying to test ‘Pratyeka Hoda Kavali Ante Rahul Ravali’ slogan during Rahul’s public meeting in Tirupati on February 22nd. This uncannily resembles TDP’s 2014 campaign slogan ‘Job kavalante Babu ravali’. Looks like the Congress too is gearing up in vying for its position using the Special Status issue as a hook to the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
