Apple MacBooks Banned on Flights Over Safety Fears

Directorate General of Civil Aviation made it clear that one version of 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops have now been banned and travellers will not be able to carry them on flights. It is said that the batteries of these laptops can overheat and is dangerous on the terms of causing a fire risk.

The ban includes rules and it cannot be allowed either in checked-in baggage or in hand-baggage. Earlier too, Samsung Note 7 has been banned for the same reason.

Back then, the limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units had batteries which caused overheating issues, posing a fire hazard and these were sold between September 2015 and February 2017. However, product eligibility is determined by the product serial number.

Post the recall advisory, the US had banned the recalled MacBook Pro laptops from flights. Now, DGCA stated that due to fears that their batteries may overheat and pose a safety risk, it requests all flight passengers not to fly with the affected models until the battery has been verified as safe or replaced by the manufacturer.

The limited number of MacBooks has now created chaos and looks like DGCA is unable to figure out ways instead of banning.

The Apple has announced that if the laptop has recalled, the company will replace its battery for free. Apple updates its website with a statement, “Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider to have your battery replaced. Your MacBook Pro will be examined prior to any service to verify that it is eligible for this program. Service may take 1-2 weeks.” This new policy of banning laptops with a recall notice with Lithium batteries is now troubling Indian students to a huge extent.
