The trailer of Vidya’s upcoming film ‘Begum Jaan’ was just unveiled and it is jaw droppingly fierce. The trailer starts off with a rustic monologue narrated by probably the most recognized voice across the nation, Amitabh Bachchan’s.
The story of ‘Begum Jaan’ is set against the backdrop of the India-Pakistan Partition. Vidya plays the character of ‘Begum Jaan’, the owner of a brothel, the existence of which is threatened as a result of the Partition. The authorities try to bargain, intimidate and even launch an attack on the women led by Vidya to vacate the brothel as the Partition line was supposed to divide the house into two.
Begum Jaan can be termed a survival drama, a fightback for one’s rights or the depiction of women power. Vidya’s powerful dialogues, which were too bold in fact were the highlight of the trailer. The film will hit screens on April 14, 2017.
