Box Office: NTR’s Overseas Plan Fails

The biopic on NTR was released on Wednesday so that it could have its premieres in the US on Tuesday.

Usually, there are offers available on Tuesday such as buy one ticket and get one free there. Therefore, it was quite a wise decision by the makers who were looking to rake in around 1 million dollars on Tuesday.

However, the film ended up collecting only around half of the targeted amount i.e. close to half a million dollars. This is the highest ever opening for a Balakrishna film in overseas but still a risky venture for the buyers there considering the price at which they bought it for.

This has had a cascading effect on openings in India as well. Footfalls have been far short of expectations and one of the reasons could be that the current generation is not aware of NTR or his debacles and achievements.

Of course, he is a God for his community but to the rest of the people, he is merely just another successful actor and politician. Therefore it is unlikely that a college-going teenager would skip class to catch the morning show or watch Balakrishna in action.

NTR can well turn out to be a case of ‘Operation success, patient dead’.
