Cabinet expansion is violation of code: Revanth Reddy

Telangana Congress Working President A. Revanth Reddy alleged that the Cabinet expansion scheduled for today is a violation of model code of conduct as the notification of elections to the Telangana Legislative Council has already been issued.

In this regard, Revanth Reddy wrote to the Chief Election Commissioner in New Delhi and also sent that to the State Election Commissioner, Rajat Kumar ahead of the Telangana CM’s plan to expand his Cabinet. “The notification was issued on Monday evening and the election code has come into effect since then. Therefore, this exercise of Cabinet expansion directly violates the election code,” said Revanth Reddy, speaking to reporters.

Making an appeal to the Election Commissioner, he said that the Election Commission should implement the model code in “letter and spirit” and should stop Telangana CM K. Chandrasekhara Rao and Governor E.S.L Narasimhan from going ahead with Cabinet expansion today.

Revanth Reddy said that this Cabinet expansion could have an impact on Lok Sabha elections and hence, should be stopped. However, Rajat Kumar had a different version to the story – he said that the notification did not mention about the model code of conduct and hence, there should be no problem in Cabinet expansion.
