Centre Bans YS Vijayamma Trust

In a rude shock to AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy, YS Vijayamma Charitable Trust, named after Jagan Reddy’s mother YS Vijayamma and run by YS family, has been banned by the Centre. The Union Government has banned the trust allegedly for flouting foreign funding laws i.e FCRA norm violation.

Citing the section 14 of FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act), 2010, the government has cancelled the registration of YS Vijayamma’s Charitable Trust. According to reports, the Trust couldn’t respond on time to the Centre’s questions on Foreign Funds and the Trust failed to file affidavit on time.

However, this is not the only trust which is banned by the Centre. Several churches and educational institutions operating in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, which violated the norms of FCRA and have failed to provide the details to the Centre on Foreign Funds, have also been cancelled.

On the whole, the Centre has banned 90 NGOs in Telangana and 168 organizations in Andhra Pradesh. Of which, YS VIjayamma Charitable Trust is one among them. Seva Bharati Hyderabad Archdiocese Educational Society and Satya Harischandra Foundation (SHF) are also among the violators list. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) confirmed the development stating that the said banned NGOs have failed to file the mandatory Income Tax Returns annually.

It said the Annual Returns of 2017-18 have not been submitted despite after extending the date of March 31, 2019. Churches, which get majority of funds from Overseas, have topped the list of violators banned by the Centre.

Jagan’s family trust among the violators list has courted a new political controversy.
