Chandrababu Declares War on Election Commission

Taking up the war against Election Commission to New Delhi, Chandrababu Naidu has accused the EC of being “biased”. He alleged that the EC turned elections have been turned into “farce” by the EC. Naidu reiterated his demand to count the VVPAT slips on the counting day. He explained the things that have taken place in Andhra Pradesh during the polls. He said he is ready to go to any extent in his struggle to save democracy. He said Opposition parties would join his fight against the EC.

Briefing the media at Delhi, Naidu has recounted the events that took place in AP ever since the election code came into force. Naidu found fault with the transfer of top officials without proper verification on the allegations made by Opposition YSRCP. Naidu said the transfer of SPs and even the transfer of Chief Secretary has affect on the investigation of the ongoing cases as well as the administration respectively.

Chandrababu alleged that 35 per cent of the EVMs malfunctioned and it suspicious and raising doubts. Naidu took strong exception to Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha calling the EVM malfunctioning a small issue and said at one stage 4,600 EVMs were not functioning. Naidu said that EVMs have caused great inconvenience to people particularly women and elderly people who had waited in hot son in queues. He said the Election Commission failed to address the issues related to EVMs on time. Naidu alleged that several people had returned without voting due to the delay in the polling. He blamed opposition YSRCP for the violence that marred elections in AP.

Naidu also questioned the EC about the qualification and credibility of technicians it recruited to repair the EVMs. “Who are these people? How were they recruited. What is the guarantee that these people are not doing any manipulation in the EVMs,” he asked.

Chandrababu said TDP is filing a review petition in the Supreme Court for counting of at least 25% of the VVPAT slips. Naidu also questioned the EC why it failed to give to the state police the IP addresses of those who tried to delete 7 lakh votes under a conspiracy and alleged that the poll panel shielded the criminals.
