C/o Kancharapalem Cannot Be Sent To Awards

In 2018, Telugu cinema has truly seen some real evolution as filmmakers have come up with aboriginal content. One such films that got huge critical acclaim is none other than “C/o Kancharapalem” movie. But the film will not be getting any National Award of sorts now.

Forget about getting awards, the film’s producer claimed that they are not even able to send it for consideration. With the film’s producer Paruchuri Praveena happens to be an American of Indian origin, the film is said to have got legal hurdles to be sent to nominations. Only a film produced by an Indian will be considered by Govt Of India as an eligible movie for National Awards.

Of course when only a film produced by an American company could be sent to Oscars race (for Best Actor, Best Film, Best Story and all other awards rather than Best Foreign Film), only a film produced by a legal Indian will be sent to India’s National Awards consideration, isn’t that logically correct?

While legally that is correct, C/o Kancharapalem is not something that is filmed here and released abroad. It is made and released here only. So the panel could have taken that as an exception.
