Covid-19 Scare: Active Cases In India Inching Towards 10 Lakh Mark!

April month turned out a tough period for India with the second wave of Covid-19. Just nine days into April, India added the highest single-day infections five times. For the third day in a row, India saw more than one lakh new Coronavirus cases.

On April 9, India witnessed not less than 1,31,968 new Covid-19 cases. The new infections are the highest single-day infections since the respiratory disease has entered India. The other day, India saw 1,26,789 new cases, the previous highest cases.

Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Kerala, and Punjab witnessed a sharp rise in fresh Coronavirus infections, the Union Government said.

Along with fresh infections, India has also witnessed record casualties with 780 people breathing their last in the past 24 hours. The new casualties are highest in the last six months. India’s death toll rose to 1,67,642.

As per the data shared by the Union Health Ministry, India now has a total of 1,30,60,542 infections. With 1,19,13,292 total recoveries, the active cases in the country stood at 9,79,608.

So far a total of 25,40,41,584 samples have been tested in the country, while 13,64,205 samples were tested on Thursday alone, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.

With the second wave of Coronavirus driving the new pandemic infections in the country, as many as seven states have imposed night curfew and restrictions to tackle the respiratory disease.
