‘Declare Abhinandan’s moustache as the ‘national moustache”

After IAF pilot Abhinandan Varthaman’s bravery at 2019’s India-Pakistan stand-off, his gunslinger moustache has started trending to a greater extent. Some even recounted actor Suriya’s “Singam” moustache and calling Abhinandan the “real Singam” for his bravery. If moustache is there, then it should be like Abhinandan’s, or else it need not be there – was the main idea among the influenced youth.

Yesterday, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who is the Congress leader in the Lok Sabha, demanded that Indian Air Force pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman’s ‘gunslinger moustache’ should be declared as the ‘national moustache’. He said this while addressing the lower house of Parliament. He also demanded to award Abhinandan for his valour and bravery. In reaction to Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s demands, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted that he wants to see all his friends in the Congress sporting Abhinandan’s moustaches, along with a smiley emoji.

In the Indian army, the moustache is considered as a symbol of dignity and spirit of a soldier. Now that the Congress leaders demand to give Abhinandan’s ‘taches a national status is leaving many perplexed. Is it too much to ask? Are we focusing more on facial hair getting honoured? Well, the topic is subjective and whether the moustache is nationalized or not, we just want to say, Long live the moustache!
