Game Of Thrones: Season 8 Opener Disappoints

Finally after two years of wait, the much awaited final season of the superhit HBO TV series “Game Of Thrones” took the world by a storm again. The Season 8 opening episode, S08 E01, was aired other day and it got mixed reactions from the series’ hardcore fans

*Spoilers Ahead*

When GoT Season 7 was screened, the opening episode’s opening scene had Arya Stark butchering the whole of Lord Walder Frey and his family. However other day when S08 E01 got screened, it’s a shocker that the episode started off with a new titles presentation. This is said to have upset those fans who are expecting an adrenaline rushing treat.

But the truth is that the title graphics have ice blocks being laid on the route maps to Winterfell and other houses, indicating that the Night King is leading his army there. And then the opening scene of Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen arriving at Winterfell with their unsullied and Dothraki armies, and the two dragons, gave some goosebumps.

On a whole, this episode happens to be a video of reunions- as Arya meets Jon Snow, Tyrion meets Sansa Stark, Jon meets Sam and others. Then the scenes like Jon Snow riding the dragon for the first time, Cersei ordering to kill his two brothers, Euron reaching Kings Landing with ships and Golden Company army and Sam revealing to Jon that the latter’s real identity is Aegon Targaryen are stunners.

However, the ending scene gives a thrill, when the Kingslayer Jamie Lannister reaches the Winterfell and Bran Stark is the first one to see him there, as he already said ‘waiting for an old friend’

Needless to say, the 80% drama that went at Winterfell in S08 E01 has set a perfect stage for bigger drama, conflict, war and other fighting scenes in the upcoming episodes. With five more episodes, this mega TV series that started in 2011 will come to an end.

Trivia: Each episode of GoT Season 8 is roughly made with a budget of more than 100 crores.
