India’s Oscar Entry : Gully Boy

It is all official. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhat-starrer Gully Boy has been selected as India’s official entry into Oscars in Best Foreign Language Film category.

Set in the milieu of Mumbai’s slum Dharavi, the film tells us the story of an ordinary guy Murad (played by Ranveer Singh) who follows his heart and becomes top rapper. The Zoya Akhtar directorial has shades of Slumdog Millionaire that won Oscars to India as Gully Boy also tells us the inspiring story of an underdog who makes it from rags to riches.

Meanwhile, Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika starrer Dear Comrade, which deals with sexual abuse of women in sports, is the only Telugu movie which got selected for Oscar Entry Screening by the FFI. It is one among the 28 films selected. However, Dear Comrade couldn’t make it to the final.

Let’s wait and see whether Gully Boy gets the much needed and much awaited Oscar to India in Foreign Language Film. The Academy Awards is going to be held on February 9, 2020.
