KCR Announces 10% Reservation For Economically Weaker Sections

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Thursday has announced that the state government has decided to implement 10 per cent reservation to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in the state.

It is already known that 50 per cent reservation is being implemented for the weaker sections. With the latest decision taken by KCR, the reservation in the state will reach 60 per cent along with EWS. KCR will conduct a high-level review with the authorities on this in two days. After this meeting, clear directions will be issued to the officers regarding the issue of reservations.

In January 2019, the BJP government led by Narendra Modi made an act to provide 10 per cent reservations for EWS in education and employment.

The people who fall under EWS quota are who are having an annual income less than Rs 8 lakh, own less than five acres of farmland, have house smaller than 1,000 sq feet in a town or a 100 sq yard house in a notified municipal area.

While speaking about the EWS reservations, CM KCR said, “There is a necessity to implement 10 per cent reservation for EWS in education and jobs continuing the existing reservations for different sections of society.”
