Krishna River Board management Chairman Paramesham said that he appealed Telangana and AP to submit DPRs (detailed project reports) of all their state-owned projects respectively. The two states have said that DPRs will be submitted duly to the government. He said that this year too, the agreement was finalised at a board meeting to share water at a ratio of 66:34 where two states are deciding to implement second stage telemetry as a priority.
“In the past two years 2018-19 a surplus of water has flown in to the rivers and both the states have decided to utilise it, but a committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of chief engineer in Delhi comprising board members from both AP and Telangana to decide upon sharing 60:34 ratio of the water. However, the water release was allowed only until certain data is furnished by both the states.’ he said in a press conference.
He further stated that the committee will look into the issue of flood waters and expedite the final decision regarding distributing the surplus water for domestic water supply and also drinking water consumption as it is dedicated to usage for about only 20 per cent. Regarding the water being moved from Godavari to Krishna basin, it was reported to ministry of power and the move of the board will be finalised by the Power Department.
Nagarjuna sagar left canal had witnessed losses earlier and committee has been assigned for the current year too for analysing the observations. The chairman also iterated an issue regarding shifting of head quarters to AP, which is being helmed by Jalshakthi. The two states have been advised not to take any constructions until detailed DPRs are submitted and both the states have agreed for the instructions given by the board and it’s implementation.
