Late actress Sreevidya’s flat put up for auction

The Income Tax department has put on auction, deceased actress Sreevidya’s flat in Chennai to recover the tax arrears which amounted to 45 lakh rupees. The officials at the Income Tax department said that they are going ahead with the auction proceedings with the permission of actor KB Ganeshkumar who is the legal custodian of Sreevidya’s assets. The auction of the flat whose base price has been set at more than 1 crore rupees will take place in Chennai on March 26.

The flat which was owned by the actress is currently rented by Umasankar who is a lawyer.Umasankar said that he had rented the flat from Sreevidya in 2005, before the actress succumbed to cancer. He added that KB Ganeshkumar knows about all the cases with the Income Tax department and that he is paying a monthly rent of 13,000 rupees to the Income Tax department.Sreevidya had not paid the tax from 1996 until her death; hence the arrears skyrocketed to a whopping 45 lakhs.

The Income Tax department has decided to auction off the flat as the monthly rent of 13,000 rupees collected from the tenants is insufficient to cover the loses.Once the flat is sold off in the auction, another memorial of the yesteryear actress Sreevidya will be lost in oblivion.
