Nirbhaya: SC Dismisses ‘Juvenile’ Plea Of Pawan

One of the four convicts in 2012 Nirbhaya case, Pawan Kumar Gupta has filed a special leave petition that he was juvenile when the crime was committed in 2012. However, the Supreme Court dismissed the petition, saying that Pawan need no be treated as a minor.

Pawan is one of the death row convicts and he filed a petition asking to stop his scheduled execution on February 1 at 6 am. Justice R Banumathi had taken up Pawan’s special leave petition today morning. Meanwhile, the convict’s lawyer AP Singh accused Delhi cops, balming that they have concealed the records about his age.

“Pawan’s date of birth is October 8, 1996. These records were concealed by the Delhi Police, it is a big conspiracy,” said the lawyer. AP Singh also produced the school certificates in order to establish Gupta’s age. However, the bench said n to new documents and pointed out that they are dated 2017. Which means, they are after Gupta’s conviction in the case.

Countering AP Singh’s argument, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that the Delhi High Court had considered the plea that Pawan Gupta’s date of birth was October 8, 1996. “It even recorded that plea and rejected it,” he said.
