On June 16th, the most unmissable World Cup match between India and Pakistan is scheduled to happen. While people are excited to take it in a sportive manner, looks like Pakistan took the upcoming match a bit seriously and in fact, provoking. The advertisement that Pakistan channels are airing has received severe backlash on social media after it showed a character appearing to mock Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.
This promotional advertisement is 33-seconds long and the video has a person impersonating Abhinandan, wearing an Indian jersey. He is seen sipping tea just like how the real round of interrogation took place. Moreover, the popular gunslinger moustache by the IAF pilot is vividly seen on the guy in the ad. The most irritating and humiliating part is when the man, acting like Abhinandan, kept repeating his statement: “I’m sorry, I am not supposed to tell you this” every time he was asked questions about India’s playing technique and the team’s strategy if it wins the toss.
Later, the interrogator says, “Ek second ruko! Cup kahan leke ja raho ho? referring to the World Cup trophy. This made Indian netizens fire and replied with, “let them keep tea cup, we will take World Cup”, Another user wrote, “Abhinandan is Pakistan’s favourite too and hence, made a video on him”.
