Rahul promises Special Status if Congress comes to power

At a very unexpected place and time, Congress President Rahul Gandhi declared that the party will grant Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh if the party is voted to power in the upcoming Loksabha elections this year. Addressing the Indian Diaspora in Dubai, Rahul reiterated their promised to the people of Andhra Pradesh.

Attacking Narendra Modi government’s political vendetta, he said that BJP government has been misusing and undermining central institutions in India, without any respect.

“In a country where different ideas, religions and communities exist and reflect its vibrancy, we have faced four and half years of intolerance towards various communities,” he said, in a trenchant attack on fringe elements creating law and order disturbance across India, in the name of religion.

Political observers say that Rahul Gandhi’s announcement of Special Status makes the Congress look serious about the issue. “The fact that he has mentioned it abroad carries weightage as he is speaking to a global audience. It is a strategic move to win the people of AP who have isolated the party,” said a political observer. While one might still not understand about why Rahul spoke about Special Status to AP while addressing an NRI crowd, it sure has struck the right chord in Andhra Pradesh.
