Rakul or Tapsee in consideration for a female-centric biopic

Renowned writer-turned-producer Kona Venkat officially announced a biopic on Indian weightlifter Karnam Malleswari on the eve of Malleswari’s 45th birthday.

As per the latest reports, the makers of Karnam Malleswari biopic are considering two actresses -Taapsee Pannu and Rakul Preet Singh for the titular role. A source close to the unit said that Taapsee is most likely to bag the part, considering the fact that she is already doing a couple of sports films in Bollywood. On the other hand, makers are also contemplating on Rakul Preet Singh, who is always interested in taking up fitness-based roles. Looks like, we need to wait and see who will bag the highly-anticipated titular role.

Hailing from Amadalavalasa town in Andhra Pradesh, Karnam Malleswari is the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Olympics. She achieved the bronze medal in weightlifting at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Jointly bankrolled by Kona Venkat and MVV Satyanarayana, the yet-to-be-titled film will be directed by Sanjana Reddy. The film will be made in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. However, the makers have yet to announce the final cast and crew of the film. The makers are planning to begin the film’s shooting in 2021.
