Reason For Heavy Rains? Ask Naidu!

For several years, Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been carrying a stigma: that whenever he comes to power, he brings drought along with him.

His detractors, particularly YSR Congress party, has been alleging that Naidu is an iron leg insofar as rains are concerned and as long as he is in power, rains play truant in the state. This was the case in her earlier stints and in the last three years, too, AP has been experiencing only deficit rainfall.

But this year, there are copious rains in the state. For the first time, Rayalaseema region and particularly perennially drought-prone Anantapur district has received excess rainfall and floods. Naturally, it has put Naidu on cloud nine. And he has now started finding reasons for these rains.

He attributed the present heavy rains in the state to his “prayers” to Godavari and Krishna rivers in the name of “Jala Siriki Haarathi” programme.

Whichever river or water body Naidu is visiting, he is offering “haarathi” to the water amidst Vedic hymns. And he has also asked all his party leaders to perform pujas to the rivers and tanks.

“Because of this Jala Siriki Haarathi programme, the Rain God is pleased and has blessed us with copious rains,” Naidu reasoned.

His son Nara Lokesh also supported the theory and called upon the party leaders to perform pujas to all the water bodies, so that there is no death of water for drinking and irrigation.

What an idea!
