Speaking Sanskrit Controls Diabetes & Cholesterol: BJP MP

‘Speaking the Sanskrit language on a daily basis improves the nervous system and keeps diabetes and cholesterol at bay’ – Can you guess who said these surprisingly ridiculous words? It is none other than BJP MP Ganesh Singh who stated these words in confidence while in a debate on the Sanskrit Bill.

Many times in the history of Indian politics, we have heard some ridiculous and funny statements made by our politicians, leading to trolls and memes. And, Ganesh Singh’s witty link today between a language and medicine is taking it to the next level.

He claimed that as per research was done by a US-based academic institution, Sanskrit will help people to steer their diabetes and cholesterol levels. He also claimed that according to research by NASA, if computer programming is done in Sanskrit, it will be flawless. He added, ‘more than 97 per cent of the languages in the world, including few Islamic languages, is based on Sanskrit’.

Apart from him, Union Minister Pratap Chandra Sarangi spoke in Sanskrit on the bill and praised the language’s flexibility. He claimed just a single sentence can be spoken in many ways. He also said various English words such as brother and cow are derived from Sanskrit. With these statements, especially by BJP MP Ganesh, he became a superstar of Twitter with trolls pouring on him.

On Wednesday, a bill to set up central Sanskrit universities was introduced in Lok Sabha and Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, seeks to convert three Sanskrit deemed universities, that is, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan and the Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth in New Delhi and the Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth in Tirupati, into central universities.
