Is the coveted Vice-President post going to fall in the lap of Telangana? BJP workers and leaders in Karimnagar district of Telangana are reportedly confident that Ch Vidhyasagar Rao, a prominent party leader from their district has high chances of becoming the next Vice-President.

District party leaders strongly believe that Vidhyasagar Rao is the prime contender for the post. His close association with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is another reason that make him a hot favorite.

Rao developed good rapport with Modi during Godhra riots in Gujarat in 2013, he was serving as the Union Minister of State for Home at that time. Their good acquaintance has been continuing ever since.

Right after BJP-led NDA government came to power in 2014, Modi appointed Rao as the Governor of Maharashtra. Impressed with his acumen in handling sensitive situations in the state, Modi also appointed him as the In-charge Governor of Tamil Nadu to handle the recent political turmoil in the state.

With Rao accomplishing every responsibility that Modi has entrusted him with, the PM is contemplating on making him the next Vice -President, say BJP cadres of Karimnagar. The issue of the selection of candidates for Vice-President post will take prominence after completion of the Presidential election, which is scheduled on July 15.

A senior BJP leader from Telangana, Rao was elected as an MLA thrice from Metpalli constituency from 1985 to 1998. Later, he was elected as an MP twice from Karimnagar in 1998 and 1999.
