There should be no mercy for rapists: President

In the wake of crime incidents against women in the country, President of India Ramnath Kovind made interesting comments.

Speaking at an event in Rajasthan President Kovind said that there is no need to show mercy on rapists and the convicts have no right to ask for forgiveness. He added that the government should solve the mercy petitions as early as possible so that the real victims get justice.

President also appealed to the Parliament that the mercy petitions should be reviewed and in a latest development, the President has rejected the mercy petition of 2012 gang rape convict Vinay Sharma.

Also the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the encounter. NHRC has sent a team for a fact finding on the spot investigation. Also the Union Ministry of Home Affairs also sought a report from the Telangana government regarding the encounter episode. Home ministry said the police action is a case of killing in custody.

Meanwhile Raah Group Foundation has announced Rs 1 Lakh reward for the police who are involved in the encounter.
