43 Years Ago, Chiranjeevi Shot His First Scene On this Day

‘Punadhirallu’, which marked the debut film of Megastar Chiranjeevi, hit the big screens on June 21, 1979, and completed 41 years of release in the industry. Here is a piece of interesting news on this film.

On this day, 43 Years ago, Siva Shankara Vara Prasad became Megastar Chiranjeevi. On 11th February 1978, the first scene of Punadhirallu movie was shot with Chiranjeevi in Dosakayalapalli, East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh. And, we know the rest is history.

Punadhirallu is directed by Gudapati Rajkumar and it also stars Gokina Rama Rao, Ali, Roja Ramani, Savitri, Narasimha Raju and Kavitha in lead roles. The film not only opened to positive responses but also won the Nandi Award for Best Feature Film. It was produced by Talasila Kranthi Kumar under the banner of Dharma Vijay Pictures. J Premji composed music for the film which has cinematography handled by PS Nivas.

Although Punadhirallu was Chiru’s first film, it was Pranam Khareedu that hit the box office first. Speaking about Megastar’s achievements, he starred in over 150 feature films, primarily in Telugu, in addition to Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi languages.

In a film career spanning forty-three years, Chiranjeevi won three Andhra Pradesh State Nandi Awards, a Raghupathi Venkaiah Award, and nine Filmfare Awards South.
