AP DGP Thakur RP Thakur is under severe criticism from Opposition YSR Congress Party leaders who are accusing the former of acting in favour of the TDP. Even AP BJP leaders are alleging the AP police of acting in favour of ruling TDP. In this backdrop, media reports are rife that RP Thakur would be replaced. A Telangana vernacular, owned by KCR, has reported a speculation that RP Thakur could be replaced as AP DGP. It is reported that the Election Commission would change incumbent DGP and could appoint a new person as AP DGP once the Election Code comes into the force. As there are several allegations against AP DGP that he is in favour of ruling party and also with the ongoing ‘Data Theft’ war between TDP and TRS, YCP, looks like EC may consider changing the option.
Even Opposition leader YS Jagan has given a formal complaint to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora in New Delhi. Jagan has asked the CEC to change the top police officials in AP. With BJP, YCP, TRS are vouching for the change of DGP in AP, speculations are rife that RP Thakur could be transferred.
Even the rumours of appointment of new DGP for AP is going viral in several whatsapp groups of YSRCP.
In fact, the Election Commission has been acting strict on AP. It has been taking special care on AP. EC had asked AP state government to change its Electoral Officer RP Sisodia. As per EC’s request, AP has changed Sisodia and appointed Dwivedi as the new CEO (Chief Electoral Officer). Even the EC has ensured that Srikakulam district collector is changed as it was not satisfied with his presentation on the preparations of Elections.
Even as Srikakulam collector Rama Rao was very new and assumed charge as Srikakulam collector only a few days before presentation, EC had reportedly directed AP state government to transfer Rama Rao. AP government had posted Rama Rao as the Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner. Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner Nivas has been appointed as the Collector and Magistrate of Srikakulam.
In this background, speculations are also rife that EC could change AP DGP.
