Sye Raa: Overseas ‘Panchayati’ over 5 Cr Losses

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s magnum opus ‘Sye Raa’ has become the third highest-grossing movie in Telugu states but the film turned out to be a huge flop in the crucial North American market.

The overseas distributors are now fighting over the losses.

It is finally estimated that the distributors have incurred losses to the tune of Rs 5 crore on their investment.

The period drama has ended its run with $2,608,115 ($2.6 million) in North America. It needed to collect a minimum of $3.4 million to reach the break-even stage.

The film was bought together by several Tamil and Telugu US distributors. They are now having a dispute over the losses.

Even though the USA market is witnessing the worst phase, producers are still quoting high prices in the name of ‘mega-budget’.

“Saaho” saw similar heavy losses and now “Sye Raa” ended up losing Rs 5 Cr. Who will pay them? How would they get compensation?

Since a couple of non-regular Telugu overseas distributors had invested money in this movie, they cannot recover money in future transactions with Ram Charan the producer.
