Deepika Padukone was honoured with the Crystal Award at the ongoing World Economic Forum 2020 in Davos, Switzerland. Crustal awards are presented to celebrate the leadership of artist and to those exceptionals who contributed largely to the society.
In her winning speech, Deepika has focused on points regarding the importance of mental health awareness. The actress posted a picture of herself, with the award, on Instagram and captioned, “GRATITUDE!”. Amid boycott Depika trending, her post has been widely appreciated, generating close to a million ‘likes’ in a span of a very few hours. Moreover, her husband-actor Ranveer’s comment is the highlight as he wrote, “AMAZING! You make me so proud baby.” Deepika looked very pretty in a dignified blue dress and her followers left congratulatory comments.
Meanwhile, Deepika in her speech said, “My love and hate relationship with this has taught me a lot and I want to tell everyone suffering from this that you are not alone. In the time it has taken me to accept this award, the world has lost one more person to suicide. Depression is a common yet serious illness. It is important to understand that anxiety and depression are like any other illness and treatable. It was experienced with this illness that encouraged me to set up Live Love Laugh.”
She later quoted Martin Luther King’s sayings – “In the words of Martin Luther King, ‘Everything that is done in the world is done by hope.’ Talking openly about her own struggle, Deepika won many hearts at the ceremony with her powerful speech.
