Vijay Deverakonda changed the equations in the film industry with his sudden rise to popularity in the last three or four years but the young actor has killed his market in the USA by the wrong choice of films.
“World Famous Lover” is a disaster from the first day itself. The film didn’t post decent numbers on the premiere day and the negative reviews and bad word-of-mouth had totally killed the movie thereafter.
It has posted lower numbers than “NOTA”, which until now was considered as the worst dud in his career.
Thu: $111,041 Fri: $63,114 Sat: $44,324 Sun: $14k (apprx). Total Weekend Gross: $232k (apprx)
“Pelli Choopulu” ($1.2M), “Dear Comrade” ($1.7M), “Geetha Govindam ($2.4M) established Vijay Deverakonda as one of the most bankable stars in the USA market.
At one time, he seemed to be the next big star in this region. Even “Mahanati ($2.6M) in which he played a lengthy guest role was a huge blockbuster and “Taxiwaala” ($760k) was a profitable film.
But his recent movies “Dear Comrade” ($700k), “NOTA” ($340k) didn’t perform well and now “World Famous Lover” has become the biggest flop in his career.
This has completely brought down his image as a star in the USA market. He has not even able to bring decent openings on the first weekend.
