The postponement of local body election in Andhra Pradesh is snowballing into major political controversy with ruling party YSRCP coming down heavily on the State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar and bringing his ‘caste’ into the whole issue. After CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy, party general secretary Vijay Sai Reddy and minister Perni Nani attacked the Election Commissioner and his decision to postpone the election by 6 weeks due to Corona pandemic, it is the turn of party’ spokesperson Ambati Rambabu.
Ambati stated that it is not Corona virus, but it is Kula virus as the reason for “sudden” and “abrupt” postponement for the municipal, MPTC, ZPTC and Panchayat election. Ambati repeatedly pointed out that the Election Commission took the decision in unilateral manner without consulting with “anyone”.
It can be noted that earlier CM YS Jagan had openly stated that SEC is acting at the behest of someone. Jagan had said the Election Commissioner is favouring someone as he was appointed by the former CM Chandrababu Naidu. With such serious allegations coming from Chief Minister of state, ministers and his party leaders, Election Commission need to clarify its decision and the things that led to take the crucial decision of postponement of election.
But one thing is pretty evident that YSRCP leaders are so shocked and can’t digest the fact that the election is postponed.
