After Andhra Pradesh Chief Minster Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “people should live with the COVID-19 for some more time and it has begun a part of our lives”, the opposition bashed him brutally like there is no tomorrow. But, it is the bare truth and even KCR realized it slowly.
Initially, KCR made some controversial comments and gave certain dates at which Telangana state would become Corona free, as per their government’s calculations. The people who have knowledge of the challenges in disaster management were really surprised, laughed, and criticised KCR back then.
After few weeks, KCR realized the real gravity of the situation, and then slowly he started to talk reasonably and made the same statement as Jagan and agreed that we are looking at something that is very hard to control or eradicate.
If we closely observe, these are two extremities that KCR showed the Telangana people on behalf of his government. For the past few days KCR is very confident that Telangana will become Corona-free within few weeks as the recovery rate is close to 50% and fewer cases (<10) are being registered daily.
Ground Reality: Agree with it not… The sufficient number of COVID-19 tests are not being done by the Telangana government. We are not aware of the exact number of suspects and people at risk actually present in the state. Without doing abundant tests we cannot classify the risk-free zones and containment clusters just with the reported number of cases.
On the other side, reports are coming out that many people in private hospitals have died with symptoms that are similar to COVID-19 and no tests are being done to those deceased people and they haven’t been counted in the COVID-19 official list.
If we look at Kerala state. They are the first victims of COVID-19 in India and they have a huge number of cases registered initially. Their planning and management is impeccable so far with which they have attained 92.3% recovery rate. Till, now only three deaths occurred out of 500 cases and there are only 34 active cases present.
Unlike Telangana government, the Kerala officials are not relaxed yet and they are expecting a few more cases and are confident that they can successfully deal with the situation in the end. That kind of attitude is not yet seen in KCR and he needs to be aware of real threat and ground reality of this COVID-19 pandemic before making some over-confident statements.
