No Bail To JC And Son In Travels Scam

A local court in Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday denied bail to senior Telugu Desam Party leader and former Tadipatri MLA J C Prabhakar Reddy and his son J C Asmith Reddy in connection with the travels scam.

Instead, the court granted the Anantapur police two-day custody of the father-son duo for interrogation.

It may be mentioned that the Anantapur police arrested Prabhakar Reddy and Asmith Reddy in Hyderabad on Saturday last and shifted them to Anantapur.

After conducting medical examination on them, the police produced them before the local court, which sent them to 14-day judicial remand.

JC and son were first taken to Anantapur jail, but with jail superintendent refusing to take them due to Coronavirus fever, they were later shifted to Kadapa jail.

The Road Transport Authority officials filed criminal cases against JC Travels owned by Prabhakar Reddy and son after they seized as many as 154 buses belonging to JC Travels, which they had allegedly bought from Ashok Leyland as scrap and were being run as regular buses.

These buses of BS-III category had been registered illegally in 2018 by producing fake and fabricated documents and were being run in Anantapur.

Of these 154 buses, as many as 50 buses were registered in the name of Jatadhara Industries and 104 buses in the name of C Gopal Reddy.

As many as 33 buses were registered in Karnataka, 15 in Telangana and 101 in Andhra Pradesh.

The police had registered 27 FIRs in Anantapur and three in Kurnool against the JC brothers.
