Whenever the topic of dynasty politics and nepotism in politics come, netizens and political parties often troll scions of the Gandhi family, MP Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi has finally opened up on the trolls against him and the Gandhi family. The former Congress chief said that the trolls on him help in refining himself as a leader.
The Wayanad MP has interacted with Dipesh Chakrabarty of the University of Chicago on Friday night virtually. During the interaction, Rahul Gandhi was asked how he deals with the trolls.
Replying to the question, Rahul Gandhi said, “I’m proud that my grandmother and father got killed while standing and defending something. It helps me understand them and my place and what I should be doing. There are no regrets.”
Replying to a question on Dynasty politics, Rahul Gandhi said, “It is interesting to me because the last time a member of my family was a prime minister was 30 plus years ago”
Taking about his political journey, the MP said, “As I’ve gone further in this journey, those ideas are crystallizing more. If you were to ask me why I would think of joining politics 15-20 years ago, my answer would be very different from what it would be today.”
The last time, a Gandhi member served as Indian Prime Minister was Rahul Gandhi’s father Rajiv Gandhi. Rajiv Gandhi was in the Prime Minister’s office between 1984-89. After Rajiv Gandhi, no other Gandhi person has become the PM.
Before Rajiv Gandhi, his mother Indira Gandhi and grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru have been the Indian Prime Ministers.
