Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner G. Srijana has been transferred at the State Election Commission‘s request and has been replaced with Nagalakshmi, by the government of Andhra Pradesh.
Srijana became nationally famous in 2020 as she resumed work quickly right after giving birth, despite the pandemic. She has also been highly instrumental in the reclamation of several government lands, which were encroached by various politicians.
Nagalakshmi was previously the chairman and managing director of Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL), has now been made the commissioner of the GVMC.
As she was the chairman of the APEPDCL, Nagalakshmi was also based in Visakhapatnam, making her transfer easier to process. The internal arrangements have been made by the energy department, as per the Chief Secretary’s directions.
So far, three out of four phases of local elections have come to an end, and once the local elections are over ith, Andhra Pradesh will see the urban local body polls in March. These municipal elections were started last year but were postponed due to the pandemic.
