Elections to the Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry Assemblies will be held in several phases from March to April. The Central Election Commission released the schedules to this effect. The results of the five state elections will be announced on May 2.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Sunil Arora has said that by-elections to 18 assembly constituencies and four Lok Sabha constituencies, which are vacant in 14 states across the country for various reasons, will be held in conjunction with the five state assembly elections.
The election schedule was released at a press conference at Vignan Bhavan in Delhi. Arora also announced that at the same time by-elections would be held in Tirupathi and Telangana to fill the vacancies created by the sudden deaths of the leaders. As Amith Shah is going to tour Andhra Pradesh on March 4 and March 5, it seems like the Tirupathi By-election schedule will be released after Amit Shah’s visit to AP.
