The term of the present State Election Commissioner of Andhra Pradesh, Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, will come to an end on March 31st. The Andhra Pradesh government had already begun the process of selecting the next SEC a few weeks ago.
It finalised three candidates for the post, and sent a letter to the Governor of AP, Biswabhushan Harichandan, for his approval, and so that he can select the right candidate of the 3 candidates chosen by the government.
The governor has now approved the candidature of ex-Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, Nilam Sawhney, to be the next SEC of Andhra Pradesh. The other candidates also happen to be retired IAS officers, despite their names not having been revealed to the public.
Nilam Sawhney made history after she became the first woman Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, after bifurcation. She even served as the CS for a few additional months, even after her term came to an end, because of the Coronavirus. She is also one of Chief Minister Jagan’s most trusted advisors.
