Silent transfers, secret GOs make government employees jittery

A new trend is fast emerging in Telangana. The massive administrative reshuffle to suit the ruling party’s interests is becoming the order of the day. In Huzurabad, which is poll-bound, the government has shifted several officials, who have a good rapport with Eatala. Even constable-level officials have been shifted .

What is interesting is that many of the shifted officials have not been given any posting. The police have been kept in the armed reserve, while other officials too are awaiting posting orders. Many have been kept in the vacancy reserve. Employees of various departments like irrigation, panchayat raj, revenue, R and B and municipal departments have been specially targeted.

Now, the reshuffle is said to be extended to other parts too. Now that RS Praveen Kumar has joined active politics, several Dalit officials are now said to have been shifted across Telangana. Those suspected of having links with Praveen Kumar are being specially targeted. Already, a tehsildar in Nalgonda has been transferred for attending a programme organized by Praveen Kumar. She has been handed relieving orders after she reached her office on Wednesday. If sources are to be believed, a list of officials who moved closely with Praveen Kumar has been prepared.

Sources say that special GOs are being issued to effect transfers of officers with suspected loyalties. The ruling party believes that Praveen Kumar has created a powerful network of officials at various levels and is likely to leverage this network for his political advantage. Hence the ruling party is said to be trying to ‘sanitise’ the system.
