Jagan government takes a u-turn on liquor policy

When the Jagan government first came to power, they advocated an eventual ban on liquor in the state and increased the prices on all liquor brands immensely, and the availability of certain brands has become scarce in the state. However, this has led to the increase of procuring of liquor from other states into AP, illegally.

As a result, the YSRCP government has now announced that prices on all liquor brands would be reduced by 10-20%, and that some popular liquor brands would be made available in the state once again. The YSRCP government took a u-turn on its own decision, reducing VAT and additional excise duty on liquor to bring down the prices, and announced the news as a New Year’s gift.

The government stated that people are procuring liquor from other states illegally as the cost is lower in other states when compared with AP and also to consume popular liquor brands available in other states instead of consuming unknown liquor brands that were on offer in AP.
