Will Jagan’s paternal uncle and prominent YSRCP leader YV Subba Reddy return empty handed this time too? Or will he get the Rajya Sabha seat, which he has been coveting for quite some time? Since he resigned from the Lok Sabha in 2018 on the issue of special status to Andhra Pradesh, he has been going without any legislative or parliamentary post.
YV Subba Reddy wanted a Lok Sabha ticket from Ongole, the seat he represented till 2018. But, Jagan asked him to stand down and make way for Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy. Jagan had then promised a Rajya Sabha seat to YV. However, it turned out that when four Rajya Sabha seats fell vacant in 2020, he did not give a ticket to YV. There were reports that Jagan cajoled him with the promise of making him an MLC and then a minister.
He was made the TTD chairman twice in a row. Though he had taken up the position and had worked hard to make a mark, YV Subba Reddy was deeply unhappy. It now appears certain that there would be elections to four seats for Rajya Sabha somewhere in April. One of the seat would go to Vijayasai Reddy, who is already a sitting member. The other three seats have many claimants. Jagan has a lot of concerns to address.
YSRCP sources say that YV may not get a Rajya Sabha ticket this time too. He could be asked to contest from Ongole Lok Sabha seat in 2024 elections as Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy could take a political retirement and promote his son Raghava to contest as an MLA.
