YSR Congress party national general secretary and Rajya Sabha member V Vijay Sai Reddy has been appointed as the in-charge of the party’s affiliated organisations.
An order to this effect was issued by party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
In fact, Sai Reddy had been playing multiple roles in the party and the government. He had been the in-charge of the party activities in the north coastal districts, besides undertaking liaison in New Delhi.
The party has presidents of various wings of the party – youth, farmer, labour and other outfits. Now, Sai Reddy will coordinate with all these wings.
Apparently, the decision has been taken to strengthen all the affiliated organisations of the party so that the party could face the next elections with renewed strength. Since Jagan is not able to directly supervise the functioning of these wings, he entrusted the task to Sai Reddy.
There was also a talk that Jagan might appoint another senior leader Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy as a working president of the party, but since it would create additional power centres in the party, he reportedly withdrew the proposal.
Sajjala, however, has been coordinating between the party and the government and acting as a de facto working president.
In a way, Jagan has given key responsibilities of the party to both Sai Reddy and Sajjala, so that he could focus completely on the government.
