Election results shock KCR: Discusses on how to contain BJP in Telangana

Hours after it became clear that the BJP was sweeping four out of five states that went to polls, Telangana CM KCR remained closeted with close confidants like former MP Vinod Kumar and MLC Palla Rajeswara Reddy in Pragathi Bhavan to discuss the political scenario in the country.

Sources said that KCR was shocked by the scale of BJP’s victory and the level of the Congress loss. He reportedly expected the BJP to come back with a greatly reduced majority. He also expected hung assemblies in Manipur and Goa.

He was of the opinion that Congress would fare much better in Punjab. However, all his calculations went awry as the BJP won Goa, UP, Uttarakhand and Manipur handsomely. In Punjab, the Congress was down in the dumps.

KCR is now said to be in two minds whether to go ahead with his plan of forming a non-BJP alliance. His plans to meet NDA partner and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and BJP chief and Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik have been temporarily put on hold. Sources say that KCR reportedly emphasised on strengthening the party in Telangana.

He asked the party leaders to launch voter outreach programmes and hold regular meetings to keep the party organisational set up fit and active.

He also told the party leaders to keep targeting the BJP as it is the real enemy of the BJP. He asked the party workers to learn from Mamta Banerjee’s strategies to defeat the BJP.
