A party meeting where some key leaders give a miss is normal. But, what about a party meeting where the party’s state chief is absent? The AP BJP had one such meeting where many leaders were present, but the state president of the party was strangely missing. The leaders and the cadre of the BJP are now talking about this anomaly in hushed tones.
The other day, there was a key meeting of the BJP leaders in Vijayawada. The meeting was called by National Labour Welfare Board chairperson Jayaprakash. The meeting had the likes of national secretary Satyakumar, spokesperson Turaga Nagabhushanam, Kilaru Dileep, Lanka Dinakar, Pathuri Nagabhushanam, Kanna Lakshminarayana, J Shyam Kishore, former MLA Vishnu Kumar Raju and SK Baji and Srinivasa Raju.
The president of the party, Somu Veerraju was strangely missing. The meeting was held to discuss various issues facing the party. Among the issues discussed was how Somu Veerraju was ignoring a strong section of the party while planning and executing the party programmes. The issue of Somu Veerraju’s strident criticism of both Chandrababu and YS Jgan too came up for discussion. The leaders reportedly questioned Somu Veerraju’s overenthusiasm to befriend Pawan Kalyan and his Jana Sena.
What is interesting is that all those who attended wanted Satyakumar to lead the party in the right direction. A majority of the leaders who attended the meeting came from one particular social category. Is the meeting aimed at dethroning Somu Veerraju? Can a change of the leadership happen without the permission of the national leadership? Will these people try to take the issue to the notice of the national leadership and pressure it to effect a leadership change? Let’s wait and see how things pan out in the AP BJP.
