Remember the beautiful yesteryear heroine Sumalatha. Currently an independent MP from Mandya, she is now said to be planning to join the BJP. Yes. You heard it right. Sumalatha, who was once considered close to Rahul Gandhi and whose actor-husband Ambareesh was a minister in the Congress Government, is planning to join the BJP.
In fact, Sumalatha had won as an MP from Mandya with the support of the BJP, which did not put up its candidate. Since then, she has been maintaining a friendly relationship with the BJP. In the Parliament too, her speeches showed that she was leaning towards the BJP. However, of late, she is said to be thinking of joining the BJP.
Sources said that she is also planning to bring her actor-son Abhishek into politics. Abhishek is now busy with films, but Sumalatha is said to be thinking of making him the candidate from Maddur assembly constituency. She is planning to contest from Mandya Parliamentary Constituency as a BJP candidate. The BJP too is said to be interested in giving her the party ticket.
Sumalatha, who hails from Vijayawada, was Miss Chennai before entering films. She had a successful stint in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam films and later married popular Kannada hero Ambareesh. When Ambareesh joined the Congress, she actively campaigned for the party. In fact, in 2012, she was the star campaigner for the Congress in Mysore region along with Rahul Gandhi.
