Acharya is one of the biggest disasters of all time in the Telugu market. The film incurred losses in upwards of Rs 80 crores. The Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan starrer is a mega disaster in terms of theatrical returns.
As per the latest reports, Acharya has left Koratala Siva in losses of up to Rs 100 crores.
Initially, Matinee Entertainments spent Rs 70 crores on the project, and that is excluding the remunerations. Koratala Siva then took complete control over the business prospects of Acharya by giving Rs 70 crores to the producers.
Siva then gave Chiranjeevi Rs 40 crores remuneration and another Rs 30 crores to Ram Charan. As a whole, he ended up spending Rs 140 crores on Acharya.
Siva released the film on his own in a few areas. But this move backfired big time as the film couldn’t recover anywhere near what was invested in it.
Amazon Prime Video paid Rs 18 crores for the early OTT release deal and Chiranjeevi returned Rs 10 crores from his remuneration. The film made a shade under Rs 50 crores in theatres but not all of this went to Siva as other region distributors would have also gotten a bit of it.
All in all, Siva lost a whopping Rs 100 crores on Acharya.
