Movies based on Indian mythology or having a touch of it in their stories is becoming the new success formula. The latest result of movies like ‘Bimbisara’ and ‘Karthikeya 2’ proved that. Also, it was Rajamouli who showcased the true potential in dealing with such projects.
As we know, most of his films and characters are inspired by Indian mythology. We can see references to lord Ram, Hanuman and Sita in his last outing ‘RRR’. Also, his most successful franchise ‘Baahubali’ is full of characters inspired by either Mahabharatha or Ramayana. Following this, Ayan Mukerjee is coming with ‘Brahmastra’ which may seem like a supernatural fictional film but it has its roots in Indian mythology. We can see him including Hanuman, elements like fire, water and other parts of nature in it. Apart from that, Om Raut is making ‘Adipurush’ with Prabhas and we all know that it is based on Ramayan. Prabhas will be seen as Ram while Kriti Sanon plays the role of Sita whereas Saif Ali Khan will be playing the role of Lankesh in this flick.
Also, there are a lot of films which are touching upon our rich Indian history. A lot of films based on the pre-Independence era are coming our way in recent times. Also, Mani Ratnam’s high-budget dream project ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ showcases the story of the Chola kingdom. Rajamouli says that more such films will be coming out.
He says, “Our filmmakers have realized the true potential of mythological films. I anticipate that there will be many more films with mythological touch in the coming years. There’s a lot of potential here. Other filmmakers are actively exploring the ideas of making films on mythology,”
The elite director is currently working on the script of his next movie with Mahesh. Meanwhile, he is also presenting Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Brahmastra’ in South Indian languages.
