India’s top director SS Rajamouli is a name that needs no introduction. He had an inspirational journey from Tollywood to Hollywood. The global success and fame of his last outing RRR made him receive an invitation to the Toronto International Film Festival 2022. Jakkanna received a stunning welcome and the crowd went crazy when Rajamouli arrived.
Rajamouli had an interaction with the crowd and he spoke about various topics. He was asked questions about where he gets inspiration and what made him go for the special effects in films and how his films get bigger and bigger.
Talking about the special effects, Rajamouli said, after trying it in a few films he kind of liked it and started exploring the special effects. Special effects increase the emotions in the film.
Rajamouli films are known for breathtaking action scenes and high-octane action blocks. Heroes in his films are shown with unmatchable strength who can go to any extent to reach their goal. RRR is a classic example of this. Both heroes are shown as strong-minded personalities with brutal strength.
No doubt that the audience asked Rajamouli for his love for action scenes. Reacting to the question, the Pan-India director said he has been a fan of the action genre and watched a lot of action films. Rajamouli also highlighted the impact the action sequences will have if emotions are added correctly.
During the interaction, Rajamouli spoke about the influence of American director-actor Mel Gibson. Talking about Gibson’s style of action and how the action sequences stand alone from other films, Rajamouli said Mel Gibson had a bigger influence on him. Rajamouli said Mel Gibson’s action sequences work as the sequences are driven by strong emotions.
We can see a bit of Mel Gibson’s style in Rajamouli’s action scenes. Starting from Simhadri to recent RRR, all the action sequences carry high emotions. The Kerala Temple fight scene in Simhadri comes after the hero’s sister is killed brutally.
The iconic beach fight in Chatrapathi between the hero and Katraj happens after a small kid who shares a good bonding with Prabhas gets attacked. Vikramarkudu, Magadheera, Sye, Bahubaali, and RRR all the films have some breathtaking action scenes with strong emotions.
